This report resulted from the activities of the AB MUSIC working group supported by the EC in order to facilitate the discussion on new challenges and new opportunities faced by the music sector and to mobilise policy makers across Europe. The creation, production and consumption of music have fundamentally changed with the digital age. Permanent ownership of recorded music is giving way to ubiquitous access to catalogues through the Internet. The music industry is going through a period of rethinking itself and the EU needs to be ready to respond effectively to the new reality. And the change in the music industry most certainly paves the way for the other content industries.
