Culture as an essential part of sustainable development

The European Alliance for Culture and the Arts appeals to include cultural goals and objectives into the new strategy “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” of the European Commission.

The authors of the appeal concern that culture still is not the part of a sustainability plan. They sure, it can contribute the better future. The main arguments of the European Alliance for Culture and the Arts are:

1.    The culture activities can bring the critical view of current approaches and use the creativity in imagining the future.

2.    The culture can influence on individuals and their values because it has tools to spread the message of sustainability to wide audiences.

3.    It also has the potential to integrate displaced people and promote the democracy. Moreover, culture and creative industries are key contributors to economic growth.
