Open Call: Taking the Stage 2018
Applicants are free to choose any work of British literature that exists in a published translation or which has been translated at the time of submission of this application. There are no restrictions regarding directors or theatres who may participate or the works they choose to produce. A single requirement: the production must adhere to the stated them of this year’s contest.
For 2018 our theme is “Open Societies: Is the Past Prologue?” with guidance drawn from William Shakespeare’s final, and arguably most ambitious play, The Tempest (Act 2, Scene 1).
The core of the competition remains unchanged: we are looking for work that is artistically original and socially significant. Bold, relevant projects submitted jointly by committed teams of theatres and directors from across the country.
There is no age restriction for applicants – young and old and in-between, let them come! Nor is there any restriction on type or form of theatre – public, private, cooperative, repertory, experimental – as long as the theatre is a registered legal entity in Ukraine.
In this year’s contest, the members of our British-Ukrainian jury will select two winners. Winners will receive the following: mentor support from jury members during pre-production stages; a onetime monetary reward in the amount of 50,000 Ukrainian Hryvnia to be used toward the production of the play; copyright clearance for published works requiring it; poster and advertising design by leading Ukrainian designers; a video recording of the premiere and the creation of a promotional video; advertising and PR support for the premiere.
