Combating Stereotypes: New Research on Gender Inequality in the Culture Sector
Sandrine Pujar, the author of the research, expresses concerns about stereotypes regarding the place of women in the cultural sector. For instance, people often think that culture is a sphere which is free from discrimination.
Research shows that it is not always the case. The author analyses the problem of discrimination against women through human rights and sustainable development prospects and proposes ways to reduce inequalities. She suggests improvements at four levels of cultural work: creation, production, distribution and participation. Proposed changes are called for to make invisible problems visible to society, make women`s culture work and art more recognisable and increase the financing of female initiatives.
